BackupSanity is a short setup in front of storage you already own, or storage we host at $0.015 per GB-month. A backup only reads. A restore always writes a new copy. A source is healthy only after a restore check.

Skip the bucket. Deduped incremental copies, compressed with zstd. Tighten retention and the stored size, and the monthly total, drop.
Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, and Azure can cost more on their own bills because of egress. We say so once, and we do not block them.
2 · Simple
A short setup, then it is done
Reach
Name the database, server, service, or computer. A jump host is a field on that connection when the source is not on the public internet.
Store
Probe a destination once. The next source reuses it. Hosted storage is the other choice, with no bucket to create.
Keep
Set how many daily, weekly, and monthly points to keep. The next successful backup rotates the rest.
3 · The source stays untouched
Healthy means a restore check passed
The source is only read. A backup never stops, restarts, pauses, locks out writers, fails over, or writes to it.
A restore cannot replace live data. It writes a new copy in a new location and does not connect to the source as a writer.
A restore check runs in isolated scratch space and is deleted when it finishes. It does not connect back to the source as a writer. A source is healthy only after that check passes.
We will not back this up. A consistent copy would have to pause the writer or step down a primary, and BackupSanity never touches the source.

Only when a private source cannot be reached directly and you turn the relay on. A jump host you already run does not add this.
Hosted storage stays under the $5.00 fee until stored data passes about 333 GB. Customer-owned storage is Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, Amazon S3, Hetzner Object Storage, Wasabi, Google Cloud Storage, Azure Blob Storage, DigitalOcean Spaces, Scaleway Object Storage, S3-compatible.
